ORIGIN AND EARLY BEGINNINGS

Originally, Cattubo was part of Barangay Abiang, then a sitio of Barangay Paoay which became a barrio sometime in 1951. Due to its wide land area and rapidly growing population, Barangay Paoay gave birth to Barangay Cattubo. The residents believed that their ancestors came from Tinoc, Buguias, Kabayan, Palatang, and Kibungan. They traveled by foot looking for a permanent settlement and good soil to cultivate, until they successfully found their own “Bottom” in the mountains of Atok, especially in the Barangay of Cattubo. They finally decided to settle in the area permanently.

Barangay Cattubo is one of the eight (8) barangays of the Municipality of Atok.

“CATTUBO” is the Acronym for the Six (6) sitios of the barangay namely:

C-Calasipan
A-Apanberang
T-Timbac
TU-Tulodan
B-Botiao
O-Oyusan

The name “CATTUBO” was also derived from the word “katutubo” which means “Young”. Formerly, Barangay Cattubo was a sitio of Barangay Paoay since 1902. It was only separated barangay under Municipal Ordinance No. 08, dated January 21, 1992, and Benguet Board Resolution No. 198, issued on February 21, 1972, during the Administration of Mr. Fermin Depnag as Barangay Captain.
