Long before this barangay came to its present name; it was named after a big bird called “Tulcho”. This bird was called by the Spaniards “Cali” other people called it “King” meaning famous. This bird was described to be big and fierce which was famous among the birds in the place. As it settles in the place, this bird hunts other animals like pigs, small and young animals and other beast carried them to its place called “Pungawis” a big tree, where Cali made its home. It can even pick up a child and carried it to its home for food. All the bones or leftovers from the animals it hunted were found under the big tree where this bird stays.Every time the bird flies to the different directions it always comes back to the big tree “Pungawis” then flies to another direction to the north, south, east and west forming the boundary of the barangay. As time goes the people observed and noticed that most of their animals were disappearing. This made the old folks realized that the big bird “Cali” is hunting their animals in the place and eats them. The people decided to hunt the bird for if continues to settle in the barangay all animals in the place will be gone. The old folks hunted and killed the bird. The bird was killed and that was the last of “Cali”. So that, the named “Caliking” came from the name of the bird “Cali” and “King” and a symbol of victory of the old folks against the big and fierce bird. This is how Barangay Caliking got its beautiful name “Caliking”. The first inhabitants of this barangay were Calpeo and Balanban.
